I absolutely love mocktails! Especially relaxing mocktails such as this Tart Cherry Juice Mocktail, this Chamomile Mocktail, and this Valerian Mocktail! You just can’t go wrong when choosing a mocktail! No hangover, and no hangxiety the next day when you opt to make your own delicious, alcohol-free drinks at home. 🙂
Why you'll love this mocktail
You’re going to love this Relaxing Kiwi Mocktail because it’s:
- Light and citrusy - it’s super refreshing. With the lime and kiwi combo, this drink tastes fresh, bright, and bubbly.
- It’s customizable - if you see an ingredient on the list that you don’t have, don’t worry, I’ll provide some alternatives. This recipe can be very much tailored to your pantry and fridge.
- Functional - I like my mocktails to have some functional benefits. If I'm at home, I prefer to make my own mocktails to support whatever I need at the time. If it’s the evening? I want something relaxing. If it’s daytime, I like something with a little green tea. This mocktail is no different! This mocktail, if you use the kiwi tea that I recommend (don’t worry if you don’t have it, we’ll discuss some alternatives), is a powerhouse of functional ingredients such as lion’s mane, lemon balm, kiwi, white hibiscus, and blue spirulina.
- Relaxing - it lives up to its name! Kiwis are a relaxing fruit and some people use them to help with sleep! They’re also refreshing and hydrating, you just can’t go wrong. The process of making and drinking a mocktail in and of itself is relaxing!
Ingredients + substitutions
Don’t panic if you don’t have all of the ingredients (namely the Republic of Tea’s Kiwi Tea, we’ll talk about some substitutions). But other than that, you probably have all of the ingredients if you’re a mocktail enthusiast, like me!
Let’s talk about the ingredients. You’ll need:
- Kiwi tea - I used Republic of Tea’s Kiwi Tea for this recipe. However, if you don’t have this specific brand of tea, any kiwi tea will work. If you don’t have kiwi tea at all, you can swap it for Chamomile tea or any kind of Sleepy tea that you have.
- Honey - to sweeten the tea. Just stir it into the hot tea. You can swap the honey for white sugar or any sweetener that you like.
- Kiwi juice - you can either muddle half of the kiwi into your glass if you don’t mind the texture, or you can squeeze the juice out with a lemon juicer. That’s what I did.
- Lime juice - fresh lime juice is best! You can also use lemon or even grapefruit juice.
- Sparkling water - I like to use sparkling water because I like to keep things on the lighter side. If you want a much sweeter mocktail, you can swap the sparkling water for ginger ale or ginger beer.
Step-by-step (with photos)
STEP 1: Brew the tea by adding a kiwi tea bag to a pyrex measuring cup and pouring ¼ cup of boiling water over it. Set it aside and let it cool and steep for about 5 minutes.
STEP 2: Fill a glass with ice. Arrange some kiwi sliced in your cup for garnish, if you’d like. That step is optional and makes the drink look a little fancier.
STEP 3: Pour the tea over the ice and add the kiwi juice. To easily and quickly get some juice from a kiwi, just add a halved kiwi to a lemon juicer and squeeze it right into your cup.
STEP 4: Top with a few splashes of sparkling water. You don’t want to water the drink down too much, so just a few splashes. OR, if you prefer a sweeter drink, use ginger ale or ginger beer.
Variations
- Make it sweet - as it is written, this mocktail isn’t overly sweet. The idea is that this is a “relaxing” mocktail and there really isn’t anything relaxing about a ton of sugar when you’re trying to wind down or have a nightcap. It’s refreshing, light and citrusy. However, you can certainly make it sweet if you are craving a sweet drink! Instead of topping this drink with sparkling water, top it with ginger ale, lemon-lime soda (such as Sprite) or ginger beer.
- Add magnesium powder - have you heard of “Calm” magnesium powder? I bet you have, it’s a pretty popular mocktail ingredient, and you can definitely add ½ tsp into this drink for some added magnesium!
- Add tart cherry juice - tart cherry juice is a very popular pre-bedtime drink and I bet if you try it you’ll see why! Cherries are super relaxing! Cherries and kiwi taste fantastic together, add a few splashes of tart cherry juice and enjoy!
What kiwi tea is best for this mocktail?
I really like this brand. Republic of Tea’s Lemon Balm Kiwi tea is fantastic because it contains adaptogens and (as stated on their packaging) stress-relieving ingredients. Perfect for a relaxing mocktail!
If you don't have kiwi tea or can't find it, just swap it for chamomile tea!
