I'm seriously in love with this mocktail because...

This mocktail is elevated and functional–my favorite combo! When going alcohol-free for whatever reason, it’s not fun to sip on water while everyone else has a gorgeous cocktail–everyone deserves a gorgeous drink!

Figs are just that–gorgous! And they pair insanely well with fresh herbs such as thyme, and sweeteners like maple syrup give them that “cozy” fall flavor that we’re all looking for when summer ends.

Additionally, it’s perfect for Thanksgiving.  It’s not too sweet, so it pairs well with savory food, but it’s just elevated and bubbly enough that you might want more than one.

Here's what you'll need to make it

    Labeled ingredients on a board.
    • Figs - they have a deep, sweet, honey-like flavor, making them perfect for cozy, fall-themed recipes such as this one!
    • Thyme - for fresh herb flavor and nuance.
    • Maple syrup - this is to give a little sweetness to the drink and be sure to use it to taste. You can use more or less but keep in mind you can always add more, but you can’t exactly use less, you know?
    • Kombucha - my bubble of choice for this drink is kombucha.  You can use any bubbles you want as long as the flavors don’t totally clash with the fig and maple syrup flavor profile.  Apple, peach, or stone fruit flavors work, too.
    • Garnish - garnish is obviously very optional but it’s a fun touch, and it can sometimes be nice to snack on half of a fig before you dive into your drink.  I recommend stabbing half a fig onto a nice cocktail pic and place it on the side of your glass.  Or just place a thyme sprig over the side and call it a day.

    How to make it

    The process is pretty simple!

Figs in a jar with thyme, maple syrup.

Just combine the figs, thyme and maple syrup in a jar.

    Muddle until well combined.

    Then add your bubbles--stir.

And strain into a glass over ice and garnish (if you'd like).

    Substitutions and swaps

    • Herbs - this recipe calls for thyme.  If you want to swap it for another herb to keep with the cozy fall theme–I’d recommend rosemary or sage. But if you want to brighten things up–basil works, as well as mint, tarragon, or even lavender would be a great choice!
    • Sweetener - the vibe for this recipe is cozy and fall, so I used maple syrup, but you could swap it out for honey, simple syrup, or agave and have great results.
    • Bubbles - personally I like kombucha for this recipe because it adds so much more flavor than sparkling water.  But you can use any bubbles you like, such as sparkling water, sparkling juice (peach or apple), or a flavored seltzer.

    Helpful tools

    • That Weck jar - the jar that you’re seeing in the process shots is by Weck, and it’s by far my most used jar (even more than mason jars). It’s sturdy, so obviously good for muddling, mixing salad dressings (because an emersion blender fits right inside it. Highly recommend you pick up one of these jars!   You can get that exact jar right here.
    • Muddler - you certainly don’t need a muddler, but they are helpful! You can either pick up a muddler like I have or just use the back of a wooden spoon.
    • Strainer - you can use a strainer like this or a fine mesh strainer works just as well.

We love mocktails around here, there’s no reason to sacrifice feeling your best for a pretty drink. No exchange necessary! If you’re a fan of this mocktail you might also like my Peach Mint Shrub or this Apple Cider Vinegar Mocktail (also perfect for Thanksgiving).
