If you’re a huge fan of the honey mustard flavor, you’re going to love this recipe for spicy honey mustard sauce. Not only is it incredibly easy to make, but it’s just full of flavor and way better than the store-bought varieties!

    Ingredients + substitutions

Ingredients needed to make spicy honey mustard on a sheet pan.
    • Dijon mustard - it’s tangy and it’s the base of this sauce.
    • Mayo - use a full-fat mayo for the best texture.
    • Honey - use your favorite honey.
    • Apple cider vinegar - for a little extra tang, you can swap this ingredient for white vinegar or lemon juice if you’d like.
    • Cayenne - for the spiciness.
    • Garlic powder - for flavor.
    • Paprika - adds flavor, don’t skip this ingredient!

    • In a small bowl whisk together the dijon mustard, mayo, honey, apple cider vinegar, cayenne, garlic powder, and paprika until it’s totally smooth.
    • Taste it, if you want it spicier, add a little more cayenne.  As this recipe is written, it’s not overly spicy, but you may want to dial it up a bit.
    • Chill it in the fridge for 30 minutes, covered.
    • Serve or store it in a mason jar with the lid on tight for up to one week.

    Recipe notes + storage

As long as none of the ingredients you’re using are about to expire, this sauce will last for a week in the refrigerator in a closed mason jar. Whisk it before using to re-emulsify the ingredients before serving.

    Variations

    • Hot honey spicy mustard - add ½ tsp of red pepper flakes to give it more of a “hot honey” flavor.
    • Garlic spicy honey mustard - add a clove of finely minced garlic for a garlicky kick.
    • BBQ spicy honey mustard - add 3 tbsp of your favorite bbq sauce to the mixture.
    • Buffalo honey mustard - add 3 tbsp of Frank’s Red Hot Cayenne Pepper Sauce to the mixture for buffalo honey mustard sauce (maybe scale back on the cayenne if you go for this option and then taste and adjust after adding the Frank’s).
