Obviously, you already know that you love the Dunkin’ Chai Latte, or you wouldn’t be here, but let me tell you that this recipe tastes very much like the real thing.  Whether you want it hot or iced (I’ll give you the recipe to make it iced in the recipe card below), it comes together in less than 5 minutes.  Not only is it seriously good, but it’s quick, too!

    Ingredients

Let’s talk about the ingredients, you don’t need to worry if you don’t have all of them on hand, we will discuss substitutions further.

    The ingredients you need are:

Labeled ingredients on a sheet pan for making chai latte tea.
    • Chai tea - you can use a regular chai tea bag, a vanilla chai tea bag, or even a Keurig kcup.
    • Cinnamon stick - It’s best to use a whole cinnamon stick, this will deepen the flavor of the latte.  You can buy them in bulk on Amazon.
    • Star anise - these taste very licorice-y.  And they’re so pretty, I love to have some of these around for fall baking and creating homemade cocktails and coffees.
    • Brown sugar syrup - you can make your own, using this recipe, or you can get a store bought version.
    • Milk - Dunkin’ typically uses 2% or skim milk in their chai lattes - feel free to do the same.  I used whole milk, though.
    • Whipped cream - for topping, it tastes great and certainly elevates the drink!
    • Cinnamon - for garnish.

    Top with whipped cream.

Add a sprinkle of cinnamon.  You can keep the cinnamon stick and star anise as garnish, or toss them.

    Substitutions

    • Chai tea - you can use a regular chai tea bag, a vanilla chai tea bag, or even a Keurig kcup. Additionally, if you want to make a dirty chai latte, you can simply add your tea bag to a strongly brewed cup of coffee or espresso to get that flavor.
    • Cinnamon stick - It’s best to use a whole cinnamon stick, this will deepen the flavor of the latte.  You can buy them in bulk on Amazon.  If you don’t have a cinnamon stick, just leave this out, because it’s really not needed, the flavor from the tea itself will be enough.
    • Star anise - not everyone likes the strong, licorice-y flavor of star anise, so if that is you, just omit this ingredient.
    • Brown sugar syrup - you can make your own, using this recipe, or you can get a store bought version.  If you don’t want to do any of that, just use a teaspoon of brown sugar.  Simply add the brown sugar to your tea while it’s hot and give it a stir.  It’ll be sweet enough.
    • Milk - Dunkin’ typically uses 2% or skim milk in their chai lattes - feel free to do the same.  I used whole milk, though. If you're vegan or plant based use oat milk, or your favorite plant-based milk.
    • Whipped cream - you can use pumpkin whipped cream. Or just leave this ingredient out if you don’t want to use it.
    • Cinnamon - swap it for pumpkin pie spice, nutmeg, or just don’t use anything, it’ll still be delicious!

    Variations

    • Make it a vanilla chai latte - use a vanilla chai tea bag, like this one from Bigelow.
    • Make it a dirty chai latte - a dirty chai is simply a regular chai latte with an espresso shot added to it.  If you have a Nespresso machine, just add a shot to your cup.  OR, strongly brew some coffee and just add your tea bag to it and let it steep.

Tips to level up this Copycat Dunkin' Chai Latte

You can level up your chai latte by adding pumpkin whipped cream, or cooked boba pearls.

This drink is pretty customizable, if you’re feeling it, you can get creative and experiment by adding flavored syrups.  As we discussed, you can drink this chai latte hot or iced, or even make it a dirty or vanilla chai.

    FAQ

Can I make a Dunkin' Chai Latte ahead of time?

You can make this ahead of time, simply brew your tea, add the brown sugar syrup, and then add the milk.  Make sure it’s cool, then store it in a mason jar or airtight container for 1-3 days.  When you’re ready to serve it, either heat it up, or pour it over ice, add the whipped cream, top with cinnamon, and serve.

Can I make this Dunkin' Chai Latte iced instead of hot?

If you prefer to enjoy this drink iced, simply follow steps 1-2, then add a handful of ice.  Continue to garnish with whipped cream and some cinnamon!
