This Easy Caffeine-Free Rose Latte is pretty, floral-flavored, and caffeine-free! It’s great as a relaxing morning or afternoon drink.
I’ll admit that lately I am awfully tea-obsessed, and I’m not sure why. I’ve been making iced matcha on repeat, and I can’t get enough of this pumpkin chai latte.
That said, sometimes I like something relaxing that doesn’t contain a ton of caffeine. Too much caffeine in the afternoon seriously throws off my evening routine and sleep cycle, so that’s where herbal teas such as this butterfly pea latte or this rose latte come in.

Ingredients
- Rose tea - rose tea is the tea that you’re using to make this latte. I think it is easiest to use a tea bag, but you can use loose leaf tea as well, if that is your preference.
- Hot water - for brewing your tea. You can heat it with a kettle, or in the microwave, it really doesn’t matter as long as it’s hot enough to brew the tea.
- Honey - I like to use honey to sweeten floral lattes, it’s natural and easy to incorporate.
- Milk - I used whole milk, but we will talk about substitutions further down the post.
- Vanilla extract - for a touch of vanilla-flavor.
Instructions
Step 1: Add the rose tea bag to a mug. Pour hot water over the tea bag and steep for 3-5 minutes.
Step 2: Stir in the honey.
Step 3: Froth together the milk and vanilla extract. Pour over the hot tea. Give it a gentle stir.
Step 4: Serve it! Maybe garnish with some dried rose petals (from the tea bag).
Substitutions
- Rose tea - you can use rose-hibiscus (like this one), rose chamomile, or even a black rose tea.
- Honey - you can swap the honey for pure maple syrup, simple syrup, or brown sugar syrup.
- Milk - you can use any milk that you’d like and normally make lattes with. 2%, skim, whole, or even a plant-based milk such as oat, almond, or soy.
- Vanilla extract - you don’t technically need this, but it’s a nice touch. You can swap it for vanilla bean paste or just leave it out if you want to.
Variations
- Rose-hibiscus: rose-hibiscus tea (like this one) is suitable for making this rose latte. It certainly works well and makes a very pretty latte!
- Rose-chamomile: you can use this tea for a nice relaxing factor.
- Plant-based/vegan: swap out the honey and dairy milk for a natural sweetener, such as pure maple syrup, and use a plant-based milk to make it vegan-friendly.
- Dirty rose latte: add an espresso (or nespresso) shot to your rose latte. You may need to double the amount of sweetener if you do this!
Equipment
Hand frother: I’ve recommended this hand frother many times, but I’ll do it again! I really think everyone needs a simple hand frother. They take up almost zero counter space and they’re super handy.
Countertop frother: This frother is a slight splurge but it’s great to have because you can quickly hot or cold froth liquid for your at-home latte.
Storage
Storing the latte:
Brew the tea and add the honey, allow it to cool to room temperature and then store it in a mason jar in the fridge. When you’re ready to serve it, froth together the milk and vanilla and reheat the tea. Then add the frothed vanilla milk over the tea and serve.
Making Ahead a Latte:
I don’t believe that making this latte ahead of time saves you time, but you can certainly do this.
Just brew the tea, and add the honey. Let it cool and then store it in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. When you’re ready to serve it, reheat the tea, then froth together the milk and vanilla and pour it over your tea.
JUST REMEMBER: While making a latte ahead of time can be convenient, the texture and taste might not be exactly the same as when freshly prepared. The quality of the latte can be affected by factors like the type of milk used and the specific methods of storage and reheating.
FAQ
Rose tea is made from dried rose petals, therefore it is naturally caffeine free. If you’d like a caffeine boost with your rose tea, you can add an espresso shot, or use rose black tea.
Whether a rose tea latte is vegan or not depends on the ingredients used. If the latte is made with plant-based milk and no animal-derived additives, it can be considered vegan. You can see the post for tips and tricks to make this latte vegan, but as it is written it is not vegan or plant-based.
