This vegan-ized Russian dressing is the love child of chipotle mayo and cocktail sauce. I’m not exactly sure, but I’M HERE FOR IT!
It’s often referred to as “Big Mac Secret Sauce” but I have to disagree, I think that the “secret sauce” that many reference, resembles much more to Thousand Island dressing. Thousand Island dressing is much sweeter and has a more pickley, sugary-kick.
Russian dressing is a little more bitter and umami. It’s a bit more unique, complex, and it’s more daring! If I do say so myself…
I was at the local grocery looking a pre-packaged dressings and I saw many different types and brands of Thousand Island, but I didn’t see ONE Russian Dressing, not one.
So, when I say daring, I do mean that it’s not daring for us Americans.
We are known for our mayo-based, sugary, and basic AF dressings. And I’m fine with that, normally.
But when you want a little more je ne sais quai (literally meaning :I don’t [freaking’] know” in French), then you want THIS Russian dressing!
Are you ready for this?

Prepared horseradish and vegan mayo is perhaps the most difficult thing you’ll need to find in your local grocery to prepare this recipe. Prepped horseradish will likely be found near the bagged cheeses and deli section (sometimes I have to ask someone where the hell I can frind the horseradish).
Vegan mayo may or may not be found with the regular mayo. I use “Best Foods” Vegan Mayo. I don’t buy “Vegenaise” because it’s wildly expensive and I honestly can’t tell the difference between this brand and the one by Best Foods.
Seriously, check out “Best Foods” Vegan Mayo. It’s delicious, I can’t tell the difference between “it” and the “real thing” and it’s not a price gouge!!! I hate over-paying for things.
I’m an Old Navy type of girl, not a Louis Vuitton type, you know what I’m saying?
THIS IS MY FAVORITE WHISK SET – but you can use any old whisk.
AND, THIS IS MY FAVORITE GLASS BOWL SET – but again, use any old bowl to whisk the ingredients.
You don’t have to get fancy.
