Summer is officially over. It’s still hot in the south, but nothing is stopping me from turning down my AC and making it feel like fall inside of my house. Except maybe, an energy bill?
In any case, this spiked hot chocolate is crazy good. It’s everything I love about cooler weather--a decadent, creamy cocktail.

HOW DO YOU MAKE SIMPLE SYRUP?
It’s super easy, grab a saucepan and add 1 cup of water and 1 cup of granulated sugar. Simply stir it together over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved. Remove it from the heat and let it cool. Put it into a jar and refrigerate it until it’s thick.
And that’s it! Simple syrup! It’ll last in the fridge for a few weeks!

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO DRINK THIS HARD HOT CHOCOLATE?
In the afternoon on a Sunday, in front of a Lifetime Thriller after you’ve gone to church that morning. Or anytime you’re feeling an indulgent cocktail.
Hard Hot Chocolate
- 1 cup milk
- 3 tbsp white sugar
- 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa
- 2 tbsp milk chocolate chips
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp cornstarch
- 2 oz vodka
- chocolate syrup
- whipped cream
- In a saucepan over medium heat, add milk, sugar, cocoa, milk chocolate chips, vanilla extract, and cornstarch. Continually whisk until melted and bubbly. This should take about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat.
- In a cup or mug, add 2 ounces vodka, then stir in the hot chocolate. Top with whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and other desired toppings. Enjoy!
