What is a Christmas Gin Cocktail
A Christmas gin cocktail can be a great cocktail to make for a solo date with yourself on the couch, or in a huge batch to serve to guests at a party.
Gin is one of those spirits that you likely love or hate. I love it during the holidays, but I’m not a fan of it in the summer months, which is why I often only stock up in December.
Why make a Christmas Cocktail with Gin
Gin has a strong aroma, tastes slightly citrusy, and contains notes of pine. Often gins are spices with strong spices, making it a great spirit for mixing holiday cocktails.
Gin pairs well with strong flavors, such as simple syrups infused with herbs like rosemary, but also lends itself well to sweeter flavors like those in cranberry juice!
Best Gin for Cocktails
Choosing gin is a very personal decision and that will look different for everyone. A London Dry Gin (such as this one) is a great gin to add to your bar cart, it can range in price but it tastes great.
Being a “London Dry Gin” doesn’t necessarily mean that it has to come from London, either. Rather, it’s a method of distilling using a neutral-flavored alcohol of 96% by volume (ABV).
After this process, nothing but water is added and a minimum proof, or strength, of 37.5% will be left.
Tools you need to make a quality Cocktail
If you want to get super fancy with it, and expand your bar cart, try getting this set of cocktail making essentials. This set includes a cocktail shaker, jigger, strainer, mixer spoon, muddler, and liquor measures and pours.
Or, if you want to keep it minimalistic and budget friendly, just shake your cocktail in a mason jar and strain into a glass.
You’ll also want to get some nice glasses, I love using these oversized martini glasses.
If you don’t already have one, I think a good kitchen scale is necessary to make cocktails (and for many other reasons). Getting and using a kitchen scale has been a total game changer for me!
